Kuhner Feeding Technology is designed to support reliable fed-batch screening in high-throughput applications by providing controlled nutrient delivery on a microlitre scale. Suitable for microtitre plates, shake flasks and cultivation tubes, the diffusion driven system is supplied sterile and ready to use, allowing easy integration into existing laboratory workflows. The range includes FeedPlate®, FeedBeads® and FeedTubes®, with glucose and glycerol substrates available in multiple release rates to suit different cultivation requirements.
Conventional batch screening can result in an excess of nutrients at the start of cultivation, leading to overflow metabolism, by-product formation, oxygen limitation and pH inhibition. Kuhner Feeding Technology is based on a polymer matrix in which nutrients are embedded. When the matrix comes into contact with the culture medium, nutrients are continuously released, providing controlled feeding throughout cultivation. By creating conditions that more closely resemble a fed-batch production process, the technology supports controlled cell metabolism and delivers more comparable and reproducible screening results.
Reliable screening is essential for selecting the most suitable production strain early in process development. By reducing overflow metabolism and minimising oxygen limitation and pH shifts, Kuhner Feeding Technology can improve product yields, extend cultivation time and reduce by-product formation. The result is simplified scale-up, better screening data and the potential to reduce development time and unforeseen process costs. Kuhner Feeding Technology offers a practical solution for laboratories performing fed-batch screening.
