Capella Science is pleased to introduce the new Statebourne Cryogenics Biosystem 40 & 100+Vault, self-sustaining cryostorage units designed to run without a pipeline or a bulk external LN₂ tank. Conventional cryostorage tanks lose LN₂ through natural boil-off. The Biosystem 40 & 100+ Vault recaptures this evaporated nitrogen gas and reliquefies it inside the tank, significantly reducing LN₂ consumption. Typical consumption is less than 1 litre per day, with up to 98% lower LN₂ consumption compared with similar conventional cryostorage tanks supplied from bulk external LN₂ systems*. Depending on usage, the Biosystem 40 & 100+ Vault may require topping up only once every six months under high traffic conditions, with intervals potentially extending beyond 12 months in lighter use areas. A manual top up takes approximately 30 minutes.

Key Features

  • Up to 98% lower LN₂ consumption*
  • Typical LN₂ consumption of less than 1L per day
  • Potential payback period of 6 to 18 months*
  • Top-rack temperature range of −180°C to −188°C
  • Up to 2 weeks of temperature retention without power
  • RT temperature, level monitoring with datalogging, alarm, and ethernet/Wi-Fi connectivity
  • 10 year vacuum warranty

*Consumption reduction compared with similar conventional cryostorage tanks supplied by bulk external LN₂. Actual savings and payback periods depend on current LN₂ costs and usage

Available now

  • 40 Vault: up to 37,500 x 2ml vials
  • 100+ Vault: up to 97,600 x 2ml vials

Other capacities in this range will be available in 2027

Although the Statebourne Cryogenics Biosystem 40 & 100+ Vault cost more upfront than conventional cryostorage units, reduced LN₂ consumption can provide an estimated payback period of 6 -18 months, depending on your lab’s LN₂ costs and usage.
